Our Self-Awareness as Tribal Messiahs

Dr. Ki Hoon Kim, Continental Chairman of FFWPU North America, gave the following message at the National Ministry Team meeting on February 3, 2016.

I have the greatest news: We have the Cham Bumo Gyeong at last. We’ve been waiting for over a year for this book to be available. Our talented brothers and sisters in America invested in translating and editing the Korean text, and finally with their effort and support we published it.

Is this an advertisement? No. This is my mission. Sharing True Parents’ words with others is my priority, mission and responsibility. We have True Parents’ blessed message in this book, which I carry with me every day, wherever I go, and share with whoever I meet. It is a precious, unforgettable, and lifesaving message.

Yesterday, we had a staff meeting where I shared with everyone about this book, the greatest book in human history, which we have right now, while the Second Coming Messiah is here. I really want you to have a copy before you leave this room. Will you do that? Now I’d like to share one passage from the Cham Bumo Gyeong, page 51, verse 7:

I could not just come to the decision “I am the Messiah” on my own. I could not carry out the Messiah’s mission based on my personal views. Rather, all my circumstances led me to the self-awareness that I had been called to fulfill the responsibility of being the Messiah. There was no other way I could go. The potential for the Fall began from the moment when in the Garden of Eden Adam and Eve came to have self-awareness. It is the same with restoration.

I could not meet the standard of the Messiah just by words. Nor could I meet it just because God blessed me to be the one. Although God had blessed me, I still had to establish the necessary foundation by substantiating His blessing. This meant that I had to reach the level where I could live with God and be in the realm where God and I were relating as equals. When I had secured this in reality, I could receive the inheritance and the title of “Messiah.” I could inherit everything from God by reaching the level of equal participation, equal position, and living together with Him. He had to recognize me by saying, “Certainly you are the True Parent; certainly you are the Messiah.”

This is about when True Father and True Mother became aware that they were the only begotten son and daughter. How about you? Have you become Tribal Messiahs, or not yet? Even though we received the blessing from True Parents, the deepest and most blessed of blessings in human history, I’m not sure everyone is aware of their identity as Tribal Messiahs. Everything starts from our self-awareness. I cannot just say, “I am the Continental Chairman,” or “I am the regional president.” No, I need to have self-awareness, an understanding of True Parents and an understanding our Heavenly Parent. This is a matter of how we can personally commit to our Tribal Messiahship with True Parents and our Heavenly Parent.

The Broader Scope of Our Tribal Messiahship

Do you know why we have this gathering every month? Not only do we share about our activities, all of which I am very impressed about, but also we share each other’s future goals for Vision 2020, for globalizing our movement. As a nation we need to stand up and proclaim True Parents’ message to the world. This country does not exist for her own sake, but the sake of the world. So let us lead this worldwide movement as brothers as sisters, confirming that as are a nation of Messiahs. We need to bring back True Parents’ spirit into our households, into our church, and into our communities. Everything is clear in the Cham Bumo Gyeong.

When I share my testimony around the nation, people aren’t really interested in my good days. Their eyes and ears open when I share about my struggles. Think about True Parents’ story, their lifetime of suffering throughout 43 years of their ministry here in America. The real work exists not only on a personal level but in our communities and our nation. Let us become Tribal Messiahs not only in our communities here in the U.S., let us lead the world providence centered on True Parents.

When True Parents first came to America, they said they received God’s call to save this country so that America can wake up for the sake of the world. But now, we have lost this focus. Even our political leaders put America first. “I will make America great again,” they say. That is a great slogan, but they don’t know what that means. To make America great, she needs to serve as an example to the world. Only through True Parents can we make America truly great.

Let us unite together and bring this spirit back to our communities. Let us awaken ourselves and our families and recommit our faith in True Parents.

The World Looks Up to America

Now, we are having another Global Top Gun workshop from February 1-22, with True Mother’s blessing. Many would have planned this global workshop for the summertime, but then we heard True Mother’s idea to bring these young leaders to Cheong Pyeong now, and find out for themselves why they are called in this moment, as they inherit the spirit of True Parents.

We have over 100 young Unificationists at this global workshop, which was organized by our American team. Twenty-six nations responded, and among the 100 participants, 46 are from America. That means many other nations are looking at our website and registered for this workshop. I thought only around 30 people would be able to make it this time, but worldwide there was a high response.

Last year we invested in this workshop centered on True Mother, and built up young Unificationist leaders. If you look at our annual report or our website’s articles over the past three years, you’ll see how we’ve strived for the sake of True Parents’ providence right here in America. As with the Top Gun workshop, everyone is looking up to what we are doing. So let us have that kind of self-awareness, as True Parents did when they first arrived in this country, that America’s responsibility is for the sake of the world.

I’ve been emphasizing this point at the last few monthly meetings—moving for the sake of the world—but America faces many obstacles at this time. Think about our external structure; as a nation we are losing our influence. How can we American family members practice this kind of sacrificial leadership for the sake of the world? More than anything else, our treasure is this Holy Scripture, the Cham Bumo Gyeong, True Parents’ message and our lifeline to God. When you become aware, when you confirm for yourself that True Parents truly are the Second Coming of the Messiah, you need to study their life, their ideas, and their spirit and testify about True Parents to the world.

The Most Historical Birthday

Next weekend we will celebrate True Parents’ birthday. What kind of celebration would you like to have on your birthday?

How can we prepare for the birthday of the Second Coming of the Messiah? How can we make True Mother have a big smile? Of course, we will prepare many festivities and offerings, but first we must remember: who are they? And what is our relationship to them? Are True Parents like a real father and mother to us, or just founders, just leaders? Our relationship with True Parents is that of parents and children. With this heart, let us prepare one of the greatest birthday celebrations, over not just one day but the whole week leading up to it. Let us create a joyful and merry holy birthday for our dear parents, True Parents. You will get to hear David Eaton’s new musical arrangement with True Mother’s lyrics. This song will go our to the world, in a way saying, “Listen world, wake up world. Once again, we celebrate the Messiah’s birthday!”

How can we engrave this terminology, “Messiah” into our hearts? This is True Parents’ greatest gift. Some leaders are going to Korea to celebrate the upcoming Holy Days; however let us all participate locally as we celebrate and share True Parents’ words through the Cham Bumo Gyeong. This is the best gift we can give True Parents for their birthday, as well as your cards, offerings, and celebrations. That will make True Father in the spirit world and True Mother here on earth have a big smile and say, “America, you did a great job.”
