Southeast Region Launches YSP
On September 28, the Georgia Family Community Center hosted a seminar in Atlanta to launch Youth and Students for Peace (YSP) in the Southeast Region. A total of 23 people attended the event, including Southeast Subregional Director Rev. Ernest Patton and Jongsook Moon, secretary-general for the Southeast. The seminar provided participants with substantial insight on how they can use service and interfaith exchanges to reach out to the Southeast community.
Naria Gaarder, national program coordinator for YSP, introduced YSP and its mission, discussing how service and living for others is the key to sustainable peace. Dr. Alexander Cromwell, who received his Ph.D. in Conflict Resolution, incorporated interactive activities within the seminar to help participants understand how to create peace when faced with conflict. Sunghoon Park, from Washington, D.C., talked about the Peace Library initiative, which seeks to build partnerships between local governments and Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) through fostering literacy and ensuring convenient access to books for local citizens. Park, who was appointed YSP coordinator for the Southeast, plans to adapt the Peace Library initiative to more effectively support FFWPU Co-founder Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon’s vision for global peace.
The next YSP seminar will be held on October 26 in Washington, D.C. Stay tuned for more details.
