Although gray skies loomed and rain poured, nothing could dampen the illuminating spirit of the newly established World Clergy Leadership Conference (WCLC), as more than 75 clergy gathered for fellowship, food, and inspiration on Monday, December 30 at the Clifton Family Church in New Jersey. Following the momentous weekend of Peace Starts With Me events spearheaded by the Mother of Peace herself, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, co-founder of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU), the prayer breakfast celebrated the inauguration of WCLC and planted seeds of peace within clergy to spread throughout the new year.
“We are going to return this country to God by working through the American Clergy Leadership Conference (ACLC), the Korean Clergy Leadership Conference (KCLC), and WCLC, building the foundation to unite and collaborate,” said Dr. Ki Hoon Kim, regional chairman of Family Federation North America, while giving the welcoming remarks. “This meeting is not a coincidence, it’s a constituent for the future.”
As evident in its name, WCLC consists of clergy from throughout the world—from the United States to South Africa to Korea—and many more. Despite the distance, Dr. Kim stressed the importance of WCLC coming together at least four times a year with the intention to firmly establish unity amongst all religions and groups of faith. “We needn’t just speak, we must also do,” said Father Hatourn from Nazareth, affirming Dr. Kim’s determination. “For all the people of the world, let us bring peace. Do unto others what you want for yourself.”
Dr. Michael Jenkins, president of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) International, gave the keynote address, speaking about the brutal course of Jesus and the responsibility of clergy to bring about lasting peace. “Dr. Moon’s heart has invited us all here and I’m extremely grateful for that,” added KCLC Subregion 2 Chairman Rev. Jong Taek Lee. “Nations of the world, let us create God’s ideal.”
