True Parents’ 58th Holy Wedding Anniversary
May 1, 2018, is the 58th Anniversary of True Parents’ Holy Wedding in 1960. This was a momentous day for the world, as we now had True Parents who recreated the original God-centered family ideal that Adam and Eve were meant to be, and guided the way forward to change the world.
As a nation and global community, we celebrate True Parents’ groundbreaking mission and with immense gratitude we wish our True Father and True Mother a happy anniversary!

April 11, 1960 (March 16 by the lunar calendar) marked the historic day in the Unification tradition of ‘the marriage supper of the Lamb.’ True Parents joined in holy matrimony in the Cheongpa-dong headquarters church. Wedding decorations were put up in the main hall, the walls and floor were covered with white cloth, and a platform was erected. When preparations were completed, True Father consecrated the hall with salt. This began the church tradition of consecrating belongings with Holy Salt.
As described by Rev. Young Hwi Kim, True Mother, dressed in a white hanbok (the traditional Korean dress) with a long wedding veil over her head and ornaments befitting a bride, came down the stairs from the second floor, arm in arm with True Father. A chorus of ‘Song of the Banquet’ was their wedding march.
The ceremony was carried out twice, first in the Western style with a wedding veil, and then in the Korean traditional style with a blue silk hanbok, square belt and black hat for the groom and a bridal headpiece and Korean royal dress for the bride. The offering table for the Holy Wedding was set up according to revelations received from Heaven, with some forty kinds of food in cylindrical columns. After the meal, celebrations were held in the same hall, joyously highlighted by True Parents’ dance. True Father said that because of this ceremony, the Principle and the existence of the Unification Movement would become known throughout the entire world, and the Will of God would be accomplished.
Local Celebrations
SALT LAKE CITY FAMILY CHURCH
To commemorate the anniversary of True Parents’ Holy Wedding and to raise funds for their upcoming Hyo Jeong Carp trip, the Salt Lake Family Church second generation worked a food booth at the Nihon Matsuri Japan Festival on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
The following Sunday, the community celebrated the holy day with a traditional service and luncheon, with most of the give and take revolving around True Mother’s broadcast on Sunday morning.
KONA, HAWAII FAMILY CHURCH
On the night of April 27, a total of 60 people gathered at hteh Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden in Kona, Hawaii to commemorate the 58th anniversary of True Parents’ holy wedding. Among the 60 participants, 36 were non-Unificationists who had been invited to learn more about True Parents.
The evening began with a wonderful dinner cooked by Chef Kyoji Sano. Everyone then enjoyed top-notch entertainment from violinist Ursula Vietze and pianist Bernaldo Evangelista.
Farley Jones delivered the main message, speaking on the theme “The Heart of Love.” In his message, Farley expressed the heart and love True Parents have for all of humanity–both individually and as one entity. Bruce Brown then gave an overview with photos of the global peace work of True Parents.
The beautiful night concluded with an anniversary wedding cake cutting.
HONOLULU FAMILY CHURCH
On May 5, over 80 families and guests gathered at Halau ‘O Haumea, an open auditorium of the Hawaiian Studies Department of University of Hawaii at Manoa for the first annual True Family Values Banquet: “World Peace through True Marriage.” This open auditorium, known as a sacred place among the Hawaiian people, was a very appropriate place to hold a celebration banquet for the 58th True Parents’ Holy Wedding Anniversary.
The program started with a Hawaiian Holy Marriage Blessing Ceremony, a Hawaiian-style prayer by Pastor Sage Chee, pastor of Ohana Family of the Living God Ministry. During the dinner, congratulatory letters from top leaders of the Unification movement in America were read by the emcee of the night, Rev. Ernie Ho, Coordinator of American Clergy Leadership Conference (ACLC) Honolulu. Among the Unificationist leaders who sent their congratulatory remarks were Dr. Ki Hoon Kim and Rev. Richard Buessing (Regional Chairman of Family Federation North America and President of Family Federation for a Heavenly USA, respectively), Dr. Michael Jenkins (Co-Chairman of American Clergy Leadership Conference), Tom McDeviit (The Washington Times), Ricardo de Sena (Secretary General of Universal Peace Federation USA) and Angelika Selle (President of Women’s Federation for World Peace USA).
After the dinner, two prominent civic leaders delivered congratulatory remarks. Dr. Saleem Ahmed, founder of All Believers Network, spoke on the contribution of True Parents to global peace. Hon. Mike Gabbard, State Senator of Hawaii, emphasized the importance of faith in God for a successful marriage.
Rev. Kazuo Takami, District Pastor of Hawaii, gave the main address. He first showed the rare colored video footage of True Parents’ Holy Wedding taken in 1960. Then he introduced the historic works of True Parents and illustrated the world-wide movement created by them as “Blessing Movement” from the perspectives of “One Family Under God” and “Family is the School of Love.”
At the end of his speech, Rev. Takami encouraged couples in the audience to receive the Marriage Blessing on the spot. In response, two couples stood up.
Dr. Saleem and Yasmin Ahmed, and Pastor Sage and Darnel Chee accepted the invitation. The celebration for True Parents’ Holy Wedding Anniversary was concluded as a wonderful blessing ceremony.
A beautiful duet of “The Prayer” by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli was offered by Donna and Gary Nanod, accompanied by Dr. Anne Lum of Kapiolani Community College, enhanced the atmosphere of joyful celebration for both Holy Wedding Anniversary and the Marriage Blessing ceremony.
The idea of holding a special program actually started with True Mother. One month ago, she gave special financial gifts to the Hawaii communities to celebrate True Parents’ 58th Holy Wedding Anniversary. In response with gratitude, both Honolulu Family Church and Kona Family Church respectively hosted public banquet programs.
“Hawaii communities are so grateful for this special opportunity. Each participant was greatly inspired by the program. I hope that this celebration becomes tradition of Hawaii communities as an important annual event in Hawaii,” said Rev. Takami.
