Mother of Peace Urges ‘Align With Our Creator’

The second Rally of Hope, hosted by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) and held virtually from South Korea on September 27, brought together political and faith leaders from around the world who joined an estimated one million people tuning in to the live program on multiple social platforms. 

Mother of Peace Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, co-founder of UPF with her late husband Rev. Sun Myung Moon, spoke among several current and former heads of state who addressed humanity’s current crises and the essential need for peace.

“A propitious time is now upon us,” said Dr. Moon as she shared about the upcoming Korean Thanksgiving Day, Chuseok. It is one of the nation’s biggest and most important holidays of gratitude that honors ancestors. “The Korean people, an agrarian society, are known for revering and attending Heaven,” she said. “They offer thanks and gratitude for a bountiful harvest.”

Likewise, Dr. Moon said humanity must return to God and gratefully attend Him. She said the coronavirus pandemic is a call for us to pay attention. 

“Humanity is currently in a position that is not completely aligned with our Creator,” said Dr. Moon. But she explained that America must take initiative and humanity must work together. She emphasized respect for the earth and taking solution-oriented steps to address the pandemic and climate change, including the idea of transforming the vast Gobi Desert in southern Mongolia into a lush forest that can help heal the planet.

Prominent U.S. political figures, including former congressman Dan Burton (1983-2013) and vice presidents Richard Cheney (2001-2009) and Dan Quayle (1989-1993) also supported UPF’s pillars of interdependence, mutual prosperity, and universal values toward establishing lasting world unity and peace.

“The COVID-19 crisis is one of those before and after events that will shape our thinking and policies for decades,” said Cheney. “Yet, the test of leadership does not end there. One of the key points for American leadership is keeping strong partnerships in the Pacific region … Against any set of challenges, events will always go better when free and democratic governments work together.”

Cheney described South Korea as a “dependable friend and ally.”

Other global dignitaries, including current President of São Tomé and Príncipe Evaristo Carvalho, Speaker of Cambodia Samdech Heng Samrin, and former President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan echoed the need for world leaders to unite in confronting the issues facing humanity. 

“This Rally of Hope is a testament and commitment of world leaders to be part of the peaceful resolution of the challenges of the world and its development,” said Jonanthan. “The world will be better for it … promoting greater solidarity among all peoples.”

Religious leaders urged hope and faith in God to surmount global problems and assuage the ills of humanity, citing messages of hope in hopeless situations throughout scripture.

“We are witnessing today a culture of fear and anxiety that promotes hopelessness,” said Bishop Munib Younan, bishop emeritus of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. “COVID-19 has shown us the weakness of human beings … but it reminded us of our common humanity that is seeking for a common hope from God our Savior.”

The rally featured beautiful Korean musical performances throughout the program, as well as a peace offering and special interfaith water ceremony symbolically uniting representatives of all the world’s major religions. Rally participants near and far expressed their own renewed inspiration, hope, and commitment toward joining Dr. Moon in being agents of world peace.
