WFWP Aspires to Sustainable Peace at This Year’s National Assembly
Women from all over the United States will gather from October 22 to 24, 2015, for the Women’s Federation for World Peace USA (WFWP) 23rd Anniversary National Assembly. The three-day event, entitled “Women Leading the Way to Sustainable Peace,” will take place at the Washington Times Ballroom in Washington, D.C., with community activists, spiritual leaders and women of all ages in attendance.
Angelika Selle, president of WFWP USA, said when asked about the theme, “Women have something unique and valuable, but unfortunately missing in decision-making positions all over the world is a leadership style based on heart, compassion and deep empathy.” When Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and Rev. Sun Myung Moon founded WFWP in 1992, they did so with this understanding, that in order to attain sustainable peace, the world needs women to step up and join the local, national and international conversation. This year’s national assembly will honor that vision through wonderful guest speakers, a Global Women’s Peace Network Panel, and a commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Bridge of Peace, the signature peace technology of WFWP international.
The assembly kickoff will begin not behind closed doors but out in the community for a day of service. Because Thursday, October 22, coincides with the National Day of Service, assembly participants will have the chance to work side by side with students and local organizations. “This collaboration with local schools emphasizes the importance of both education and action,” said President Selle. Participants will meet at the 4th District Metro Police Department, 6001 Georgia Ave. NW, Washington, D.C., 20011, at 10 am for a short work session that will finish by 2 pm. (Lunch will be provided.)
The following evening, Friday, October 23, participants will gather for the Assembly Opening Night at the Washington Times Ballroom, 3600 New York Avenue NE, Washington, D.C., 20002, from 6 pm to 9 pm. The opening night program will be an exciting opportunity to network and connect while enjoying live music and refreshments. Participants can browse exhibition tables and receive a comprehensive introduction to WFWP International and its activities.
The main event begins on Saturday, October 24, again at the Washington Times Ballroom, from 9 am to 6 pm. The 4th Annual Global Women’s Peace Network Panel is an exciting component to the program. This year, distinguished women leaders and experts will address the assembly theme, “Women Leading the Way to Sustainable Peace.” A gourmet lunch will be served, followed by a powerful keynote speaker. Participants also will be able to choose from a variety of interactive and hands-on breakout sessions throughout the day.
The highlight of the afternoon will be the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Bridge of Peace, followed by an actual Bridge of Peace Ceremony as a gesture of healing to comfort some of the current wounds in America. The national HerStory Award also will be given to two women in honor of their extraordinary accomplishments.
