Below is the job description for Research Director. Depending on the experience and competency level of the applicant, this role can be Associate Research Director or Assistant Research Director.
In general, the Research Director would work closely with the President to lead in environmental research, plan environmental conferences, and develop other projects. Expected competencies for the position are to have extensive knowledge on environmental matters, ability to collaborate on new initiatives, have good oral and written communication skills, ability to make timely and organized reports, and ability to share the attitude and do work aligned with the direction of management.
During the planning of our conferences, an important role for the Research Director would involve developing themes and topics according to recent environmental trends and public concern, researching appropriate candidates for conference chairs, speakers, commentators/panelists, and discussants, preparing and sending out invitations, following up with invited candidates via emailing or calling, and reading and evaluating papers on whether they fit with conference theme and topics. After the conferences are held, the Research Director would coordinate the publishing process of the conference proceedings.

The Editor would perform analytical research on environmental topics, contribute toward the publication planning process, develop story ideas and pipelines, communicate with and set deadlines for story authors, collaborate together with the editorial team, and work with the designer to complete the final publication product. Expected competencies are to have good oral and written communication skills, ability to share the attitude and do work aligned with the publisher’s editorial direction, ability to be clear and respectful to the authors and readers, ability to be humble and learn from mistakes, ability to meet deadlines, have a critical understanding on environmental issues, and possess leadership skills.

Since our President, Dr. Douglas Joo, has many responsibilities aside from handling HJIFUS activities, we are looking for an Executive Assistant to aid him in HJIFUS matters.
The Executive Assistant would, on behalf of the President, write emails, letters, and directions to employees, HJIFUS partners, and professionals. The Execute Assistant would collect reports for the President, process, and organize them to be reviewed by the President. Expected competencies are to have good oral and written communication skills, ability to be humble and learn from mistakes, and excellent organizational skills.

HJIFUS is a charitable, tax-exempt, nonprofit organization registered to Washington, DC. It is dedicated to finding, promoting, and implementing solutions to environmental challenges.
