The Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) USA traveled to Korea on February 2 to take part in the week of historic events surrounding the 100th and 77th birthday celebrations of Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and her late husband Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, co-founders of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) and affectionately known as True Parents.
“Our utmost gratitude goes to our True Mother,” said Angelika Selle, president of WFWP-USA. “She is the most amazing woman and human being on the face of the earth at this time. She showered humanity with blessings we were not ready or qualified for in order to bring us to the next level.”
A group of 20 women leaders representing the WFWP-USA delegation began their week-long expedition by attending the World Summit 2020, which was held at the Kintex Center in Seoul, Korea on February 3.
“When I saw all the religious leaders, WFWP-USA and WFWP-Canada standing together on stage for a group photo, I teared up and said to my husband, ‘Who can hold this kind of conference? Only Rev. Moon,’” shared Mrs. Audra Hajj, WFWP-USA representative and CEO of Phoenix Business Cycle. The Hajjs resonated wholeheartedly with the vision of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) and the heart and spirit of the entire FFWPU movement and committed to continue collaborating with UPF and WFWP.
During the launch of the Mother Foundation on February 4, WFWP was asked to go on stage with Senior Vice-President of WFWP International Dr. Sun Jin Moon and receive a certificate from True Mother. “When we received a monetary gift, we realized True Mother is truly investing in these organizations!” said President Selle.
The International Association of First Ladies for Peace (IAFLP) was launched successfully on February 4 despite concerns surrounding the coronavirus outbreak. The program included a summary of the association, followed by a panel discussion led by Carolyn Handschin, director of the WFWP International United Nations Office. Then UPF International Chairman Dr. Thomas Walsh mapped out the plan for collaboration between the IAFLP and UPF.
Dr. Sun Jin Moon took to the stage to inspire the IAFLP delegation with her vision and call to action. The session concluded with all 18 former and current first ladies in attendance, alongside WFWP International President Julia Moon, Dr. Sun Jin Moon and Professor Yeon Ah Moon, chair of UPF-Korea, signing a resolution of commitment to work together for peace and to address international cultural and social issues.
“We feel this new association is well off the ground and ready to move to the next level and into action,” shared President Selle.
The WFWP-USA representatives were impressed with the caliber of speakers at the World Summit and in the days following, but most of all they were impressed and touched by the incredible leadership and sacrificial heart of True Mother. WFWP-USA participants felt honored to be a part of the historic occasion and witness the work of True Mother first-hand.
The WFWP-USA team is now preparing for the upcoming 64th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW64) Horizon Summit, which will take place from March 7 to 14 in New York.
