Queens Young Adult Workshop: “Taking the Baton”
The Queens Family Church held their first Young Adult Workshop from July 20 to 21 under the theme of “Taking the Baton.” The workshop focused on True Mother’s vision and understanding the parental heart, with the larger focus on what can be inherited from them.
A total of 12 participants attended, ranging from ages 17 to 28, with two core staff and several supporting staff members.
On Saturday, the workshop kicked off with ice breakers, followed by a presentation from Rev. John Kung, Pastor of the Queens Family Church, on the topic of True Mother’s vision. Participants were split into teams and held discussions on the topic. Afterwards, each team was assigned an art project to design a poster board summarizing the theme.
In the next activity, teams were assigned a third-generation Unificationist, who they dressed up as what he or she wanted to be when they grew up. The purpose for this activity was to learn about God’s heart as a parent. Through this exercise, participants reported understanding patience and putting others before themselves.
That evening, teams were assigned to give each other Divine Principle lectures, and were visited by Tina Zelada, from the Blessing and Family Ministry at Family Federation Headquarters, who filled everyone in on the heart of preparation for the Marriage Blessing and the resources available for aiding with the Matching Process.
Saturday night concluded with Brother/Sister Night, where everyone talked about current challenges in their lives and how they work to see their value as a child of God.
The next day, the group woke up early to clean up the church property. This was followed by Hoon Dok Hwe, which touched on the importance of Sunday Service and the value of attending it. Participants then attend Sunday Service where Rev. Miilhan Stevens, Secretary General of the Northeast Subregion, was the guest speaker and poured out his heart during his sermon on inheritance.
After service, a panel of second-generation Unificationists, Rev. Stevens, Rei Park, Diance Jeon and Helio and Fumiko Saraiva, talked about their Matching and Blessing experiences and opened up the floor for Q&A.
Rev. Kung and Mr. Vincent Saraiva helped participants identify their God-given strengths and talents, and talked about how they can use their talents to work towards True Mother’s vision.
