On July 27, the Filipino International Community of America (FICA) Sports Festival, a kickoff summer event, outset a blazing hot day in Tarrytown, NY. This annual gathering of Filipino families concentrates on initiating interactions between fellow peers, neighbors, friends and other Blessed families, and includes sports competitions, recognition of the hard work of young Unificationists through awards, and showcasing Filipino culture, tradition and cuisine.
FICA is a grassroots organization that encourages families to be distinguished and supports couples to reach levels of exemplary parenthood, the first step in managing the school of love.
Over 30 families attended the event this year, reuniting with old friends and bonding with new families.
After President of FICA, Elena Bahian, welcomed everyone with an opening prayer, the two competing teams were introduced by External Vice President, Mrs. Jizly Dohou, and the Heavenly competition was announced to begin!
When the day came to an end, Sports Coordinators, Jaye Alvarez, Marivic Ibok and Jocelyn Julian, gave a heartfelt “Thanks” to everyone for coming.
According to Eliza Nipales Medina, Executive Officer of FICA, by creating community programs like this, “we start to empower the moral educations of our family because family is the basic unit of our society. When families are strengthened, parenthood is empowered, because parenthood is where the School of Love is installed.”
