Your Prayers Can Transform the Nation
Love one another.
This is the theme of this year’s National Day of Prayer, an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May with the purpose of “mobilizing unified public prayer for America”. Although it is mainly a Christian initiative, it was founded on the basis of freedom of religion, and invites people of all faiths to join together in prayer for the nation.
As the theme suggests, prayer can help us love and connect with our peers, neighbors and even those we disagree with. Praying for the nation, in turn, can help us unite with each other as a country. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”
Prayer is a simple first step in affecting change. Whether it is a quiet minute of reflection or a brief moment you share with God, there is power in the intentions of your prayers. While it may not seem like it in the moment, or even in the immediate future, your quiet determinations can help unite America for the purpose of bettering the world. In the words of Buddha, “We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.”
Preceding his America is God’s Hope tour, Rev. Demian Dunkley, President of Family Federation for a Heavenly USA, stated, “…We all want America to become better and we may be striving for that, fighting for that. However, for America to change, I have to change. It starts with me.”
In celebration of prayer, loving one another and bettering the nation, there are a few things you can do. Find a local prayer gathering to participate in, or create and advertise your own event here. If you do not have a lot of time, take a minute out of your day to dedicate it to God. You can also live stream the National Observance here.
In the words of True Father, “Let’s do it then. Let us pray.”
