Happy True Heavenly Parent’s Day!
As Unificationists, we can look forward to not just one New Year’s celebration, but two! While January 1 marks the beginning of the New Year on the solar calendar, Unificationists also celebrate God on the first day of the lunar calendar which falls on Tuesday, February 5, 2019.
When True Parents first established True Heavenly Parent’s Day, also known as God’s Day, in 1968, True Father shared these sentiments about God:
“Up until now, people have celebrated the days they were born and the days they were married. Nations celebrated days that were memorable for them. However…there has been no “God’s Day” through which God was truly remembered while He was in attendance…Centering on the clan and family, God can work freely. It is now possible to set the standard that God desired in the Garden of Eden.”
From 1968 to 2010, Unificationists celebrated God’s Day on January 1, the first day of the new year based on the solar calendar. However, in 2011 Unificationists began celebrating this Holy Day on the first day of the new year according to the lunar calendar, or the Korean Cheon-gi (“heavenly calendar”). In 2013, True Mother announced that God’s Day from then on would be known as True Heavenly Parent’s Day.
