Giving Thanks by Giving Back
“Give love and forget that you gave it.” – Rev. Sun Myung Moon (Chapter 2-3 Heart, The Way of God’s Will)
Thanksgiving is a time to gather with our loved ones to reflect on all of our blessings and to be thankful for the joys God has brought into our lives. This year, celebrate this Season of Giving by giving to those in need.
Invite Your Neighbor Over for Thanksgiving Dinner
Most of us don’t interact much with our neighbors, even if you have lived side-by-side for years. You may be stuck in the typical “Good Morning” routine when you and your neighbor pick up the newspaper at the same time. Break out of the small talk and take a chance to create a relationship with your neighbor and to show your thanks for all of creation. Even go the extra mile to ask what their favorite food is so you can make it for them.
Spread the Gratitude Attitude
An easy way to inspire others to give is by being spontaneously kind to a stranger. By completing a random act of kindness, you may start a chain reaction. Soon everyone will be spreading the attitude of gratitude. This can start by simply holding the door open for someone, or by paying for the person behind you in line at a fast food window.
Donate Packaged Goods
When you do your grocery shopping this week, buy a few extra nonperishable goods to donate to a food pantry so a family in need could also spend their Thanksgiving with a hot, thankful meal.
