Veterans Day and the Roadmap to World Peace
On this Veteran’s Day, we join all America’s families in pausing to honor all those men and women of every creed and color who have sacrificed and given so much for the sake of this nation and the cause of freedom around the world. As well as those who made the ultimate sacrifice, so many more continue to pay the price with their health, their work, their time and their tears. We thank them all.
To the many Unificationist men and women currently serving in the armed forces: we are grateful for your service, and we are praying for your safety as you work to preserve our security. Even more than that, we hope that God will be able to use your selfless efforts to bring nearer the day when all humanity lives as one family under God, and there will no longer be need for weapons and soldiers.
The vision of that future world of peace is mostly vividly captured in the words of the prophet Isaiah:
He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.
Isaiah 2:4
Immediately following the founding of the Universal Peace Federation in 2005, True Parents travelled throughout the world expanding on this timeless vision, saying—
Humankind should end the perverse cycle of war, which only sacrifices the lives of our children and squanders enormous sums of money. The time has come for the countries of the world to pool their resources and advance toward the kingdom of the peaceful, ideal world desired by God, the Master of this great universe.
“God’s Ideal Family and the Kingdom of the Peaceful, Ideal World”
True Parents went on to describe a realistic roadmap to world peace through interfaith harmony, interracial and intercultural Marriage Blessing Ceremonies, and a renewed and reformed United Nations.
In just a few days, True Mother will once again return to the United States. In Washington, D.C., she will call on the congressional and parliamentary leaders from the United States and around the world to set the example by rejecting selfish individualism and narrow national interests. At this time more than ever, our nation needs to forgive, love and unite. Let us come together in prayer and in unselfish giving, holding fast to our conviction that the world of peace and unity is closer than we think.
