On April 24, 2016, Father (Fr.) Lawrence Ventline of Detroit invited August and Chiyo Lindsay, a young Unificationist Blessed couple, and Generation Peace Academy (GPA) graduates, to present on the panel for a symposium on marriage. It was held at the New Liberty Baptist Church and led by Rev. Maurice Simage. Fr. Ventline is a great friend to the Detroit Family Church and has pastored for many years around the Detroit area.
The event started at 3:30pm, with local Fox 2 TV news anchor and friend to Fr. Ventline, Ron Savage, as guest moderator. There were couples of all ages on the panel, including an elderly couple married for 40 years, and a couple married for 30 years. Since August and Chiyo have been married for just over a year, they represented the “young couple” on the panel. There was also a Muslim professor who is an expert on the sociology of marriage.
Fr. Ventline opened the program with comments about his 40 years in ministry and the need for families to be restored. He talked about his experience within his own family, in which his father always stressed the importance that they eat together as a family. This kept them close, and this is sorely missing in today’s society.
Afterward, Mr. Savage began the panel discussion by asking August and Chiyo how the young couple avoids problems in their relationships. August replied that they are trying to develop good habits of communication now so that problems do not fester over the years.
“He is a considerate husband,” Mr. Savage said. “And by the way, both of these young people have done three years of missionary work, some of it in foreign countries.”
At this comment, they received a round of applause and were well-received as the Unificationist representatives at the event.
