Tribal Messiah Couple Holds Interdenominational Gathering

Over 100 people gathered for an interfaith MLK program at Yuba Community College.
Martin Luther King Day is a day of remembering the efforts of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to unite people of all races, background and walks of life. Bob and Maree Gauper took advantage of the MLK holiday weekend this year to hold their third annual interfaith Martin Luther King Jr. Day event at Yuba Community College on January 16. After several months of planning, their program featured several interdenominational preachers and choirs, and over 100 people attended from six different churches in the local area.

Robert Fischetti was the emcee, and opened the event by introducing Pastor B.J. Kirn of the Balanced Life Christian Center to give an opening prayer and worship session. Unificationist Maree Gauper gave the welcoming remarks, and then the assembly sang One in the Spirit. In the course of the program Mrs. Gauper also presented a “WFWP Herstory Award” on behalf of the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) to a Lisa Harris, an activist from Marysville, California.
Rev. Kirn then took the podium once more to share her 1960 experience. The event also consisted of song, dance, readings from the writings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and a keynote speaker, evangelist Phyllis Thomas.
