Young Women Have Real Talk in Atlanta

Young women in Atlanta gathered at the downtown library on November 14 for some “Real Talk.” Sponsored by the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP), the “Real Talk” group talked about love and dating, and how the misuse and misconceptions of love cause greater issues in society.

The main purpose of the meeting was to introduce abstinence education. Organizers understood the sensitive nature of the conversation and tried to approach the topic with respect for those who had not lived an abstinent lifestyle. They focused on misconceptions about love and dating culture.

The women began by answering three questions: “What controls your decisions?” “What is the world’s biggest problem?” and “What kind of person do you want to be?” They wrote their answers first and then shared freely with the group. The discussion led into a larger one about the breakdown of the family.

Two Christian college students expressed their dislike of the dating culture, and were well aware of the many misconceptions about love and sex that drive it. Participants were so engaged that the discussion lasted an hour longer than planned.

Organizers hope that the next event will allow for even deeper discussion into the correlation between the breakdown of family and the sex-driven dating culture. They also hope that more people will be able to attend, as several who were supposed to make it to this first event were not able to come.

“We will definitely have to pray and prepare for the future event so that it is even more powerful,” said Miambi Koko, coordinator of the program.
