Spreading the Word: Tribal Messiahs Bring Blessing to Their Community
Spreading the word and heart of True Parents can come in many forms: giving, serving, sermonizing… for the King family, it’s all three. From their hometown of Kissimee, Florida to the streets of Alabama, Rev. Jeddie King and Rev. Elma King are busy sharing the teaching of True Parents and giving back to their community. They work with the sick and provide food and clothes for those in need, but their main priority is to teach Divine Principle to as many people as possible.
The Kings save all year to set up a table filled with food, clothes, toys, shoes, water and household items. The banner above their table proclaims the “Roadside Blessing” with the tagline, “Living for the Sake of Others.” The food and goods are there for anyone in need; “All we require” they say, “is that we can share about True Parents and the value of being Blessed.”
As well as being ministers, authors, community leaders and songwriters, the Kings see themselves as “tribal messiahs,” broadening their pastoral focus beyond their faith community. In addition to their local activities, they have worked for two years in Haiti by invitation of Mrs. Evelyne Drake, the co-chairwoman of the Women’s Federation for World Peace in Florida, showing their all-encompassing attitude about the scope of Tribal Messiahship.
Back in the U.S., another avenue of outreach utilized by the Kings is print media and radio. They appeared on the cover of the Gospel News Magazine in Tuskegee, Alabama in 2010 and have published numerous articles proclaiming True Parents’ name to the world. They run four radio programs including “The Light of Truth” during which Rev. Elma King sends shout-outs to the world that the Messiah is here, and “The Kingdom Come” where Rev. Jeddie King teaches the Divine Principle. These programs also feature original songs, many of which are about True Parents and the Divine Principle.
The Kings feel strongly about their mission and are inspired to do their part in building True Parents’ vision. Their testimony shows that enthusiasm engenders success and they say they want “to let the 7 billion people know that True Parents, The Messiah, are here right now on the earth!”
