Youth and Young Adults Empowered in Iowa
Around 30 children and young adults gathered in Ledges State Park in Iowa for a camping trip based on the National Youth Ministry theme of Empower from October 27 to 29. The weekend was packed with activities including sports, hiking, games, cooking, and bonding around the campfire. The participants were empowered by appreciating and enjoying God’s creation as well as spending time with one another without the daily distractions of school, work, and technology.
“Despite the cold temperatures, I didn’t mind since I was warmed by the companionship between everyone,” said 17-year-old Riki Menning. “It was just the thing I needed to release the strain from everyday life and rejuvenate my spirit,” he said.
Houshin Kamata, 18, echoed Riki’s sentiments: “I had a great time reconnecting with people from the district, as well as with some people from district 7,” he said. “We went hiking to experience God’s beautiful creation, played enjoyable yet intense games of volleyball, and gathered around the campfire in the cold nights. Throughout the camp, it created a memorable time for each of us to connect, surrounded by nature.”
