Yeon Ah Moon to Speak at the National Memorial Service
Professor Yeon Ah Moon, third International President of Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP), will join the list of notable speakers, including New York Congressman, Charles B. Rangel, to speak at the National Memorial Service for the second anniversary of True Father’s Seonghwa, to be held this Saturday, September 20 in Manhattan.
Professor Moon teaches women’s studies at Sun Moon University in Korea, and has been a champion for women’s issues around the world through her work with WFWP. Widow to the late Hyo Jin Moon, eldest son of True Parents, she has always advocated a greater role for women in leadership and the importance of mothers leading the way to raising filial children and patriots of the nation. She has resolved to lead WFWP in contributing to and supporting True Mother’s vision for 2020.
Following the example of True Mother, she has addressed dignitaries at world summits, women from around the world at various WFWP conferences, and urges women to take action and to be leaders for peace.
Congressman Charles B. Rangel is one of the most well-known and effective members in the House of Representatives, serving now in his 22nd term. He is a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus, and the first African American member of Congress to lead the Ways and Means Committee. Along with his many accomplishments, including being a Korean War Veteran and an advocate for equal rights, Congressman Rangel has worked with interfaith organizations to promote religious tolerance. He once introduced a resolution in Congress to create a “National Week of Reflection and Tolerance”, and has spoken about how his own faith, Catholicism, has inspired his views on the importance of interfaith work, noting that “Jesus tells people [morality] is how you treat the least among us, regardless of their religion.”
Along with Professor Moon and Congressman Rangel, the event will feature a variety of speakers and performances celebrating the great life and legacy of True Father. We look forward to welcoming Professor Moon to the National Memorial Service this weekend. For more information on attending the service, contact your local pastor.
