‘Women from Enemy Nations Embracing Each Other is Beautiful’
With International Women’s Day right around the corner, we’re also celebrating the 9th anniversary of a special trip by the Mother of Peace, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. In March 2012, she traveled across Japan speaking about the critical importance of women in the world uniting and embracing each other.
As co-founder of Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU), Dr. Moon has championed many great advancements and achievements for women while spearheading numerous global peace projects and initiatives centered on God and family values as the bedrock of a healthy, thriving society.
During her 2012 tour in Japan, Dr. Moon delivered an address called, “The Role of Women in the Age after the Coming of Heaven and the Mission of the Women’s Federation.” It was the 20th anniversary since her 1992 launch of the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP), which currently has more than 50 chapters across the U.S. and an international stronghold on six continents.
Dr. Moon and her late husband, FFWPU co-founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, spoke of women as instrumental to a peaceful world and family life. During WFWP’s inauguration Rev. Moon said, “The true workers who are to bring an end to the world of wars and violence, oppression and exploitation, and crimes, and realize an ideal world overflowing with peace, love and freedom, are the women of this era.”
Dr. Moon emphasized his words during her tour, saying, “The path taken by us shall serve as a tradition and historic example … With the declaration of the advent of the new era of women, we have organized new women’s movements centered on the true love of God in various parts of the world … The sight of women from enemy nations embracing each other and making peace with one another centering on the true love of God is truly beautiful and heart-moving.”
Natives of Korea, Dr. and Rev. Moon grew up in the war-torn peninsula occupied by Japan for more than three decades, followed by its divide between North and South during the Cold War. Yet, Dr. Moon has remained steadfast in her efforts to reunify the Korean Peninsula and bring peace to its people and the world, while stressing the significant role of women as peacemakers.
This year, the 2021 International Women’s Day theme “Choose to Challenge” is an opportunity for every person to challenge themselves internally—with their hearts and minds—and embrace and love one another without measure, selflessly living for the sake of others as exemplified by Rev. and Dr. Moon.
