WFWP Seeks to Improve Education for Children in Nepal
Since early August, Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) USA has been in partnership with WFWP Nepal to provide support for Lunis Kinderworld, a kindergarten and preschool in rural Sariahi district in Nepal. Read the story behind Lunis Kinderworld and WFWP USA’s decision to help this school in need to create a loving educational environment for young children.
This journey begins with a man and his wife, Purushottam and Neidi, who live for the good of society and strive to do the best for their kids. They have a public mindset in which they constantly look at their environment and think “How can we serve?”
After graduating from Cheongshim Graduate School of Theology, Purushottam returned with his wife two children to his hometown in Nepal to face their newest purpose. The two kids began Kindergarten within the school system of Nepal. The family quickly realized, however that there were many flaws to the system. In particular, they were shocked that corporal punishment is still commonly practiced as a tool for correction and discipline. This often has detrimental effects later on in the child’s life, which the family observed that first-hand within their community.
The couple strongly believed in True Father’s words about the role of teachers:
“Although at school we receive an institutionalized level of education, even within that framework teachers have the responsibility not only to impart knowledge but also to raise and educate their students to become true children, with the heart of a parent. By this I mean that horizontal academic education must be carried out on the foundation of vertical character education. Thus, a true teacher must first become one who possesses the heart of a true parent.”
Believing that a school is in many ways a second home, they decided to make a difference, not only for their own children, but for children throughout the community.
Their passion was ignited, and they immediately began the foundation for Lunis Kinderworld, an education system based on love. At the time, not having the funds to buy their own facilities, they converted three rooms in their own house into classrooms. By the time the school opened and showcased its programs, they had gained public attention from the community. Their little school quickly grew to hold twenty students all ranging from two to six years old.
Mr. Bhola, grandfather of one of the young students said, “We chose Lunis Kinderworld because here all the staff take care of all kids like they are their own. This schools offers a good system and environment so I feel really happy because my granddaughter is excited every day to come to school. This is something that doesn’t happen here, normally kids don’t want to go to school. I hope this school can develop and my granddaughter can continue her primary school in good conditions at Lunis Kinderworld.”
WFWP USA is excited about Lunis Kinderworld’s mission to improve education for children in Nepal. Building healthy, happy families is vital and starts with the youth. Practicing unconditional love, a heart of service, and creativity must be the focus in order to create a culture of heart. With that goal in mind, WFWP USA is currently collaborating with WFWP Nepal to raise funds for Lunis Kinderworld to build their own facilities.
Our goal is $25,000 by the end of September, so they can begin construction in time for the next school year in 2018.
One of the challenges Lunis Kinderworld currently faces is to move out of Purushottam and Neidi’s home and into a facility of their own. Though the family’s living-room-converted-to-classrooms has serviced the school so far, they also struggle with proper ventilation, making the rooms very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. This makes it challenging for young minds to focus. With larger facilities, they can accept more students. Lunis Kinderworld plans to offer quality education at a reasonable price so that families don’t have to struggle to provide for their children.
If any part of Purushottam and Neidi’s story has resonated with you please, do not hesitate, and contribute generously to help Lunis Kinderworld reach its goal quickly. They need a lot of support from their international family in order to fulfill their dream to provide for the youth of Nepal.
