WFWP Supports Schools in Africa at Fundraiser
On the evening of Saturday, November 7, people from various charitable organizations came together at the Metro Detroit Family Church to enjoy African food and entertainment at a Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) fundraiser supporting the 20-year-long effort in Africa to build schools and educate underprivileged children.
Local WFWP chairwoman Michelle Lindsay and her team of women from USA, Africa, Germany, Austria, Brazil, Japan, Moldova, Philippines and South America put together a program centered on African entertainment. One of their pastor friends, Rev. Nathan Proche, loaned them African art from his collection with which to decorate the church.
Young people of the Kisile family, Unificationists from Grand Rapids, Michigan, began the program by performing traditional African songs and Christian songs in both French and English. They were so vibrant and energetic that they started the program off on a high note. Dinner included African, Japanese, European and American foods enjoyed by all.
Patricia Fliginger, the WFWP Chairwoman for the Chicago chapter, explained the mission of WFWP and purpose of the gathering. The guest speaker, Sabine Kouassi, then gave a heartfelt talk on her experience living in Africa and working with WFWP there. She also explained the needs of schools there and how the money given would be spent. Kumiko Wakai explained the history of the schools and how they were started by Unificationists Japanese missionaries years ago.
The group raised $1400 that night for the schools of Africa. They extend their thanks to all donors, to Rev. Kasbow and the Detroit Family Church for their full support, and Angelika Selle, President of WFWP USA, and her team for their hard work and dedication to this project.
