Unificationists Strive for 4000 Readings of True Father’s Speech
Since August, Alexander and Toyoko Hunter have been reading True Father’s 1976 Washington Monument Rally speech, “America and God’s Will.” Every week, they read it dozens of times—outside of churches, in front of shopping centers, and, sometimes, just outside their front door. The Hunters have no plan of stopping anytime soon.
Alexander Hunter first felt the passion to read these words when preparing for the 40 year anniversary of the Washington Monument Rally. “God used this activity to reawaken me,” said Mr. Hunter. For Hunter, reading gave him a sense of True Father’s “desperate commitment to turning this nation in the right direction.” The Hunter family hopes that reading the words of this historic speech in public spaces will have a positive impact on the people who hear it. Their wish is that it will not just inspire new thoughts, but action. “Acting on the message was, and has always been, the point,” says Mr. Hunter.
Before the September 17th anniversary event, over 15 Unificationists united with the Hunters to read True Father’s words 400 times. Since then, they have been striving to read the speech 4000 times. So far, families across the country have joined them and it has been read over 1200 times in various public spaces.
The Hunters hope to reach their new goal by the end of November, when True Mother plans to visit the United States. They are asking more families to help them in order to make this possible. “True Father’s words should be in the air,” stresses Toyoko Hunter. The Hunters emphasize that a public reading can be done anywhere. “Read aloud and outside your front door: on the porch, in your driveway, your front yard, or down at the library…. If you can read, you can help,” they say.
They invite families to pledge to 40 readings and keep track of their progress online. Their online check in page has simple fields for reporting, such as family name, number of readings, and dates of completion. The running count is displayed to the left, and families anywhere and everywhere can take the opportunity to contribute and keep tabs on the response and progress. The Hunters are also happy to tabulate names and numbers that are emailed in from families who can make time to participate. If you’d like to add to the count of readings, you can fill out this form or email your results to huntersbigpicture123@gmail.com.
