True Parents Way Explores the Cheon Il Guk Constitution
Contributed by Dr. Tyler Hendricks
How well do you know your Constitution?
The Cheon Il Guk Constitution may seem as relevant to our life and work as the American Constitution, but the American Constitution in fact has a big effect on our lives. We elect people and they create offices and exact taxes and set rules and enforce them. This shapes our lives.
Our contemporary American experience is that very few on the left or the right are happy with our country’s direction. True Father criticized certain aspects of democracy, and he was right. His lifetime project was to build a different world, with a different constitution. True Mother put his aspirations onto paper. How does the Cheon Il Gul constitution differ from the US model? Can it work? We won’t know until we at least understand it. I believe that our Heavenly Constitution is extremely important and that we should analyze it from a sympathetic and constructive perspective.
John Adams wrote, “As the divine science of politics is the science of social happiness, and the blessings of society depend entirely on the constitutions of government, which are generally institutions that last for many generations, there can be no employment more agreeable to a benevolent mind than a research after the best.”
