The World Cup is a World Game
Millions around the world are tuning in to this year’s World Cup—the international soccer tournament that occurs every four years, pitting countries against each other yet somehow bringing the world closer together. As we celebrate our favorite team (or teams) based on our heritage, family ties, and the nation we call home, we feel a sense of pride for our own teams as well as curiosity into teams and nations we had never paid much attention to before. As the number of teams in the competition narrows down over the weeks, our loyalties may change too, giving us an opportunity to root for teams that we are not directly or personally connected with. The World Cup is just one fun way to become more aware of the big world we are a part of and the various people that live in it.
Whether you are in America, Europe or Africa, or at the live games in Brazil—we can all join under one roof, wear our colorful jerseys and feel a sense of community in the game of soccer. Round 1 of the World Cup is nearly complete, as the world anxiously anticipates who will continue on and who will have had their final run this year.
If you haven’t started watching the games yet, DP Life is here to tell you why the World Cup is awesome. Be a part of the fun and stay tuned as we give you a close update over the turning point at the end of this week—the final games of the first round.
