Start Standing Up for Change Today
We’ve all heard of The Hunger Games, a controversial yet ultimately thought-provoking series of novels and movies about a girl who goes against the norm to change the ways of her nation. Many Unificationists can relate to the mission of striving for ideals in a less than ideal world, and DP Life speaks to this challenge. Each person, whether he or she realizes it, longs for the universal values that are outlined in the Divine Principle. DP Life addresses how you can fulfill that longing—not only for yourself or your immediate family but also for the entire human culture—by giving you specific steps to apply in your daily life.
There are many norms in our society today—drug use, material and physical obsessions, the breakdown of families and violence, to name a few—that go against God’s joy and purpose of creation. In parallel to this, The Hunger Games series highlights a fictional norm of an annual “game” in which youth fight to the death and one girl named Katniss finally takes a stand against this, thereby risking her own life and starting a shift towards a better society.
In what ways do you struggle to fight the norm? What are the risks you face when taking a stand against the standards of today? One of the hardest things is to be the one to speak out to the majority, to feel vulnerable and scrutinized when you choose to go your own way, and to be confronted when you voice your stance to others. However, in doing so we come to find that there are others like us. Learn to “channel your inner Katniss” with DP Life’s latest story, “How to Keep the Odds in Your Favor.”
