Start a New Tradition this Holiday Season
The holiday season is all about tradition. Every year your family gets together at your Uncle’s cabin upstate, where the fireplace is always lit and the kids rush to find the stocking with their name hanging from the mantle. After an afternoon of spending quality time and preparing dinner, everyone sits down to say Grace.
This holiday season, try starting a new tradition with your community or neighborhood. Not everybody is fortunate enough to celebrate the holidays with their families or friends, so invited them to a communal celebration.
Hand Out Stocking Stuffers
Invite and welcome members and families from the neighborhood to a holiday service and hand out stocking stuffers at the end of it. Stuff the stocking with goodies like snacks, candy, a deck of cards, and maybe throw in a pamphlet for a Divine Principle workshop.
Prepare a Holiday Meal
Become a family by inviting your church community and neighborhood to a holiday meal. Have your church community members bring the main dishes, side dishes and desserts, while your guests enjoy the fruit of their labor.
Host a Week Full of Gatherings
Host a family-friendly gathering every day of the week filled with holiday activities such as:
- Holiday movie night with hot chocolate and cookies
- Christmas song karaoke
- Make your own ornaments
- Make your own holiday cards
- Free portraits with Santa: Have a community member dress up as Santa and invite the young neighborhood families to take photos with him
At the end of your neighborhood outreach gathering, announce that you will be doing this again, even when the holidays are over. Everyone is welcome.
Share your story about how your community celebrated the holidays.
