Philadelphia Family Church Hosts Japanese Culture Night
On March 22, 2018, 28 people gathered at the Philadelphia Family Church for the latest Japanese Culture Night. Pastor Shota Iwasaki, who hosted the festivities, was excited to see people of so many races and backgrounds attending. “I [was glad that I] could share the virtue of Japanese culture,” he said.
Pastor Iwasaki, who was born and raised in Japan before immigrating to America, was not the only person who made the night possible. Local high-schooler Nick [last name] started the evening by teaching the guests how to make origami. And Insook Diamond, a young adult Unificationist who once worked as a sushi chef, ended the night by teaching participants how to make sushi step-by-step. In between, guests watched curiously as Pastor Iwasaki showed humorous videos teaching Japanese phrases and explaining what not to do in Japan. The cultural exchange was just one of many outreach programs designed to help bring the community together.
