This year’s Peace Road tour continued across the nation, as Unificationists and guests in Nevada, Oregon, and Michigan rode their bikes and ran through numerous paths, hills, and forests to symbolically connect all parts of the world in an effort to promote world peace and unity. 

On Saturday September 30, the Las Vegas Family Community made their contribution to the Peace Road Project with a hike to the top of Fletcher Peak where they offered a prayer for peace. Seventeen people took part in and completed the difficult hike. It was such a blessing to hike with brothers and sisters at Mt. Charleston, a place with beautiful scenery and, most importantly, a place where True Father and True Mother often visited.

At 10, 319 feet, Fletcher Peak is the 6th highest mountain in Southern Nevada. Part of the Spring Mountains, Fletcher Peak is easily overshadowed by its immediate neighbor, the taller, Mummy Mountain. 

“I felt the greatness of True Parents,” shared Akira Watanabe, Director of CARP Las Vegas. “Going up, I honestly could not connect my mind with the purpose of the climb and I was barely able to physically move forward. On the way back, I was thinking of God’s will and True Parents’ investment and I realized that no matter how tired I may feel, I get to walk a path already paved by someone. True Parents pioneered a path for us. God created these mountains for us, and likewise, True Parents paved everything towards the building of the kingdom of heaven and all we need to do is follow them.”

On a sizzling summer day on September 2, 2017, 24 Unificationists from Oregon gathered in Mount Tabor, site of a Holy Ground, to begin their third annual Peace Road adventure.  

12 riders took their bikes to the streets to Peace Park while the remaining Unificationists stayed at the base camp to prepare wonderful refreshments and food. The destination of the Peace Road participants, Peace Park, was fitting in that it was created by veterans of War who wanted to see a world of peace.  Although it was nearly 100 degrees outside, the base camp was in an old growth forest with tall timber and plenty of shade.  The green Peace Road shirts blended with the green canopy of the beautiful forest.  

“It was a spectacular ride and renewed our sense of pride and hope to see the day when Peace will come to our country and world,” said Rev. Eric Sylte, pastor of the Portland Family Church. 

Sixteen Unificationists and guests took part in Peace Road in Detroit on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017.  Wearing the green Peace Road shirts and showing the Peace Road banner, the sixteen riders were a part of “Slow Roll,” a large weekly event of hundreds of bikers riding through the city. With many other bikers around them, the Peace Road participants were able to proudly display the meaning behind their riding: Peace Road. “It gave us a good opportunity to witness to show others True Father’s vision of a united world through an international highway,” said David Kasbow, the local pastor.
