Parents’ Day Celebrated in Chicago
Contributed by Bruce Sutchar
This year, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) of Illinois chose Andrew and Judith Ross as its nominees for the national 2016 Parents of the Year award. Mr. and Mrs. Ross were honored at the national Parents’ Day banquet in Washington, D.C. on August 5th, and one week prior, on Sunday, July 31st, a local Parents’ Day celebration was held, as well, at the Chicago Family Church, to honor Chicago’s most outstanding parents.
Newly appointed Illinois UPF-USA President, Mr. John Healy, gave a brief explanation of Parents’ Day and displayed the beautiful Parents’ Day Proclamation, signed by Bruce Rauner, the Governor of Illinois. Then, Midwestern UPF-USA Regional Director, Rev. Bruce Sutchar, shared about a few of Illinois’s past Parents’ Day winners, and then proceeded to invite every parent in the auditorium to join him on stage to receive their own personalized Parents of the Year certificate.
The group then sang “Happy Parents’ Day” to the tune of “Happy Birthday,” to each other and to our beloved True Parents.
