Nepal Still in Need of Hope and Support
On May 9, 2015, the Parliament in Nepal held a special session, which Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal, President of the Nepal Family Party was able to attend. There he urged the government to think of this challenge as an opportunity to rebuild a new Nepal. Hon. Dhakal recently visited Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, speaking directly with victims and residents. Hewas able to share his concerns with the government and urge immediate action.
During a visit to the epicenter of the April 25 earthquake, Barpak and Laprak village of the Gorkha district, Hon. Dhakal observed villages turned into a barren wilderness. “I could not stop crying when I heard over 30 children died,” he said. “I could see fear and depression in the faces of the people. People were very confused and could not figure out the life ahead of them because they see only challenges.”
He stressed that at this time, there are immense needs both internally and externally. Externally, people need food to eat, shelter and temporary school for their children. Internally, the need is for hope, love and care. Along with other locals, Hon. Dhakal helped support a fund for children’s education and food. Still, he urged that there is a need for continuous assistance and support.
The devastating news of a second earthquake in Nepal on Tuesday, May 12 has rattled the already shattered landscape. In its wake, the region continues to experience aftershocks and to deal with the many tragedies and challenges in front of them. Donations from abroad are still coming in, and make a big difference in terms of addressing the physical and emotional needs of those affected by the disaster.
