Moving On, but Staying Home
School season is about to begin, and many college students are moving into their campus dorms for the year. When we go through a big move like this from one home to another, we sometimes run the risk of losing our sense of home, or at least having to redefine it. We may feel homesick, or on the other extreme, we may adopt a new lifestyle and forget what makes us who we are.
Whether we move to a new city or go on an extended trip, we often find ourselves in new surroundings, yearning to reconnect to the familiar and create a space we can feel comfortable in. We may begin living with new family members or roommates, or downsize from a house to an apartment, and that makes a big difference in our everyday life. How can we keep the feeling of being home, even if our dwelling place can become drastically different? DP Life offers some tips that also can apply to people who aren’t physically moving to a new home, but have experienced some other major life adaptations. When we can keep our sense of who we are, maintain a strong relationship with God, and keep our memories alive, the comforts of our true home will never leave us.
