Joint Divine Principle and Unification Thought Seminar
On June 9, 2017, 16 Unificationists arrived in Las Vegas to attend the first ever combined Divine Principle and Unification Thought Seminar at the International Peace Education Center (IPEC).
Led by lecturers Andrew Compton and Gerry Servito, the seminar distinguished between and connected The Divine Principle and Unification Thought. The Divine Principle includes the basic theology of Unificationism, answering questions like, “Why is there evil and suffering?” and “What is the purpose of creation and the purpose of my life?” On the other hand, Unification Thought is the philosophical implementation of this theology, answering questions such as, “What is the principled way to parent?” In the words of Orian Karr, a young Unificationist who participated in the joint workshops, Unifcationist Thought is the application of the Divine Principle to our daily lives and all aspects of society when it comes to art, education, culture, and relationships.”
Laura Lea, a Unificationist who participated in this workshop, remarked, “This was by far the clearest explanation I’ve ever heard about the meaning of the providence.” She continued, “Andrew and Gerry made the meaning of the Divine Principle more vivid, like filling in the colors in a pencil drawing.”
Donni Schmidt, who is new to the ideas of Unificationism, is excited to learn more about the faith now that the workshops have ended. “We all dream of the ideal world and through [the seminar] we are able to see that this can and will be a reality one day,” he said.
