Japanese Missionaries Visit Hawaii

This month, the Kona Family Church in Hawaii welcomed a group of missionaries from Japan, who planned a series of peace-building activities on the island.
As a gesture of peace between Japan and Kona, the missionaries made 1,000 paper cranes in a colorful chandelier arrangement, in commemoration of the United Nations International Day of Peace, which is celebrated on September 21. They offered the paper crane chandelier to Wally Lau, the managing director of Hawaii County, who accepted the gift on behalf of Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi.

The missionaries also immersed themselves in Hawaiian culture, wearing traditional leis and dresses and learning to dance the hula from a local Hawaiian teacher. This cultural exchange created strong, lasting friendships between the missionaries and the people they met in Hawaii.
