Progress on the Toru Goto Case
A landmark court decision has been made on the Toru Goto case. Toru Goto, a Unificationist from Japan, was confined by relatives for 12 years and five months for deprogramming until his release in February 2008. His kidnappers and deprogrammers have finally been ordered to pay dozens of million yen for attempted forceful change of religion. This is significant for Japan because such crimes are usually ignored by the government. A full synopsis of the case and where it stands now was outlined by Willy Fautré from Human Rights Without Frontiers (HRWF).

This victory is very significant and marks a turning point in favor of human rights in Japan. Congratulations to all involved in this campaign. Especially to the victims who can now have hope to be vindicated. Last not least to Mr. Goto who has been the spearhead of this great fight for religious freedom!!!
