DP Life Singing Contest Winners Announced
DP Life asked readers to think more deeply about the media they consume each day, giving examples of constructive and destructive media to consider in books, movies, music and television. These articles were brought to the attention of major music groups such as WorshipMob; they produced discussions on Facebook and suggestions for good music and books; they also led to the sharing of musical talent.
DP Life’s article Clap Along If You Know… called on readers to submit a brief video of them singing for a chance to win a $50 iTunes gift card. It was put to the vote on Facebook, and the winners are Sunhwa and Jisun Reiner from Montrose, New York!
The article calling for contest entries also calls this world to action: “Music can shape our culture. It can perpetuate darkness, or it can perpetuate life … If we had the power to create music, what kind of message would we want to perpetuate?” As a universal language, music is a powerful communicator, culture-shaper, and way to bond.
Sunhwa Reiner echoes this statement, saying, “Music is truly God’s way of showing that even with all the boundaries we create, there’s something deeper and greater that will always connect us all! Jisun and I have bonded over music for as long as we can remember, from singing ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’ in our first talent show to writing mash-ups of Disney songs together, to playing flute duets for fun or just belting our hearts out on a car ride with the radio on.”
Sunhwa is currently pursuing piano and choral Music Education at Ithaca College because of a desire to show people the incredible beauty music can have. Jisun is currently in her high school’s wind ensemble and top choral group.
“Music was not really a separate aspect we decided to have, but rather a non-stopping current that runs through our lives and always has been,” says Sunhwa. “We are always listening to music that uplifts and inspires or simply makes us want to dance.”
Each of the contest entries demonstrated not only talent and skill, but a dedication to using music as a force for good. The entries are included below for your enjoyment, and congratulations to Sunhwa and Jisun for winning the most Likes!
