Detroit Community Welcomes the Pure Mind Message

On Saturday, June 3, 2017, the Detroit interdenominational pastors’ prayer breakfast tackled a subject that is affecting not only the neighborhood but the churches themselves: the epidemic of pornography.

Pastors as well as representatives from the city and state gathered for breakfast, prayer and a presentation at Decarlo’s Banquet & Convention Center in the suburb of Warren, Michigan. The guest speaker was Andrew Love, the communications director of puremind.online, a site devoted to helping people overcome pornography addiction and achieve sexual integrity.

Although others also address this problem, what is unique about Andrew’s approach is that he provides a vision for healthy love. Using the Divine Principle’s teaching of the Three Great Blessings and True Father’s insights on true pure love between husband and wife, Andrew spoke of God’s vision for a “High Noon” lifestyle, one with no shadow.

Elder Ben Hill of the Mormon faith congratulated the Unificationists for our forthrightness in dealing with the topic so directly. Others did as well. Many stayed long after the program ended to continue the discussion.

That evening Andrew went to speak with the young people of our church at the home of August and Chiyo Lindsay, a Second Generation couple. There he gave a more in-depth approach to the topic based on the Divine Principle, stressing the need to focus on preparing for a life as husband and wife and not just saying no to current temptation. Two of the younger Unificationists had epiphanies that evening, saying they felt relieved that the community was now open to talking about this issue.

The next morning at Sunday service, Andrew delivered the sermon, centering on the value of putting Divine Principle into action based on True Father’s words and scripture: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22).

After service he held a meeting for parents to help them better understand the issues. In particular, he spoke about the current sexualized culture of the Internet, cellphones and media in general, and their influence on young people of society.

The movement for a High Noon lifestyle now being spread by Andrew and others of Pure Mind Online was refreshing to the Detroit Family Church. “On the foundation of True Parents, their teachings, the Blessing and the Divine Principle, we have the power to heal ourselves and be a healing balm for the world as well,” Rev. David Kasbow reflected.
