American Leadership Conference Looks to a Hopeful Future
The latest American Leadership Conferences by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) USA stressed principles and values as the tools that will restore this country. In Seattle, Washington and Washington, D.C., two such programs were held on November 14, 2015 under the theme “America at a Turning Point: Principles and Values for Building a Nation of Peace,” which also commemorated the 10th anniversary of UPF.
Seattle, Washington
The 2015 American Leadership Conference for Washington State was held in Federal Way, a city located between Seattle and Tacoma, on November 14, 2015. The conference, whose theme was “America at a Turning Point: Principles and Values for Building a Nation of Peace,” was organized by UPF in Washington State. Seventy-five people, including 16 youth, attended the one-day event. There were four presentations, as well as group discussions in which the attendees considered ways in which they could build peace in their communities.
Washington, D.C.
This conference was held by the UPF-Washington, D.C., Office, directed by Tomiko Duggan. Only the night before, the world was shocked by the terrorist attack in Paris which left many dead and injured, and the world community in shock and disbelief. President Obama called it an attack “not only on France but on all the world and on the universal values that we share.” It was with a sense of seriousness and concern that more than 120 persons attended the one-day program at The Washington Times which featured speakers and experts who gave presentations on the UPF Peace Principles, the root cause of conflict, the principles of reconciliation, interfaith cooperation, marriage and family, and youth and service.

The outer four position foundation (4PF) base of principles for sustainability are , economics, politics, culture and ecology. The inner (4PF) base of principles of sustainability consists of family ethics, civic virtues, universal interdependence and the original heart-mind. The outer base is more external and scientific. The inner base is more internal or vertical relating to unchanging values and philosophy. Together, the inner and outer bases would form the outline for the principles of sustainability that would guide nations towards lasting peace, mutual prosperity, freedom from fear, disease, suffering and disenchantment.
