Alabama Unificationist Mayor Working to Empower His Community
Brett Dungan, the elected mayor of Bayou la Batre, Alabama and a longtime Unificationist, recently was the subject of an article in Lagniappe, an independent biweekly newspaper in the Mobile, Alabama area with a readership of 80,000. The article focused on his initiatives towards community involvement and empowerment.
In the article, entitled “Bayou mayor asking for community ‘buy-in’,” Dungan mentions how being a mayor has a “spiritual component” and says that the role is similar to that of a pastor. He is also highlighted as the first mayor to bring together the city’s different nationalities, religions and cultures to organize Bayou la Batre’s first Martin Luther King Birthday event.
