Bay Area Youth and Young Adults Revive Annual ‘Snow Trip’
Contributed by Gabriela von Euw
On January 21-22, we were able to bring back our annual “Snow Trip” for high school and college age students from the Bay Area. It’s an overnight trip out in Truckee, California from Saturday to Sunday. This year, we had a total of 47 people come on the trip to enjoy the snow, and for some, it was their first time skiing or snowboarding.
Due to the weather forecast, we had to leave at 4:30 a.m. to give us enough time to get to Truckee safely, put on snow chains, and miss the traffic. We arrived at 8:30 a.m., got out our tickets and gear, and began the day at the Boreal Ski Resort.
Throughout the day it was constantly snowing and windy. Everyone enjoyed their time out in the snow with their friends skiing, snowboarding, tubing, or having a snowball fight. In the evening we played a few games of dodge ball, which is a tradition we have to do after dinner. It was entertaining and enjoyable for all of us to spend time together.
The next morning, before we went our separate ways, there was a snowball fight going on everywhere, and some of the students started building snowmen. We took a group picture, packed the vans, and left for home, with many memorable, new stories from our weekend spent on the mountain and at the lodge!
Going out in the snow and being in nature is a great experience because there is a lot we can learn and appreciate. Seeing snow covering everything in sight is especially beautiful. It gives a sense of peace and happiness. Life, just like nature, can be unpredictable but that’s what makes the experience more exciting. We needn’t let the weather conditions change the fun we can have.
