Unificationists Delve Deeper into the Divine Principle

Over the weekend of April 2-3, 25 Divine Principle students from the Omaha Family Church community, ranging in age from as young as 15 to 70, and including one guest who has been studying the Divine Principle every week for two years, attended a Divine Principle workshop presented by Gerry Servito, who traveled from New York to hold the workshop.

The purpose of the workshop topics was to give participants a deeper connection to our Heavenly Parent through the Divine Principle and generate enthusiasm for recreating the oiginal way of individual, family and community life that God intended in the Garden of Eden. The lectures focused on the heart of God, including God’s hope after the Creation, God’s heart of grief after the Fall, and God’s pain and suffering during the long course of restoration. After each session, everyone broke up into smaller groups for discussion.

Gerry was invited by Pastor Mark Lincoln to motivate the community, particularly young Unificationists, to take a new look at Tribal Messiahship and take more responsibility for the growth and development of their community. He gave five presentations connecting the Divine Principle to the power of outreach. At the end of each presentation, there was time for discussion and Q&A.

The Omaha Family Church was also able to hear Gerry’s sermon at Sunday Service, followed by a touching song he played on the guitar. In the afternoon he offered another Q&A session for parents, and on Monday, April 4, one for young people. Also on Monday, the local young people had a special gathering for dinner at Sakura Bana to celebrate all the community’s April birthdays, and it just happened to be Gerry’s 65th birthday, as well.

“Though many would have liked a longer workshop to go deeper into the Divine Principle, the idea behind these kinds of weekend workshops is to seed the community with some key lifestyle concepts and practices which they could work on gradually in succeeding weeks and months,” said Gerry. “These seeds can be cultivated through online meetings, like long-distance college courses, and pastor-guided discussions via sermons and weekly meetings.”
